I was listening to a webinar yesterday and the presenter was Siimon Reynolds, one of Australia's leading marketing minds and, as I find, quite inspiring speaker. I couldn't stay until the end but as I was driving to my appointment I was still thinking about the webinar and decided I wanted to share a few thoughts with you on my blog. And what Siimon talked about can actually be applied to anything in business and in life.
The title of the webinar was: Why people fail – which is also the title of his newest book, and no I don't get any commission…..
I am sure everyone has asked this question many times before: Why do people fail and others do succeed, even in the same areas of life, be it business, relationship, uni, school, whatever. And I know there are many many answers to this question but Siimon concentrated just on a few and here they are.
Lack of Visualisation
We could also say, many people don't dare to dream, yet dreaming is so important in order to get an idea in which direction you actually want to go, in order to stay motivated, in order to know why you are doing what you are doing. So visualising for what is going to happen, dreaming, is critical for success.
Destructive Thinking
You know what that is, don't you. It's that voice telling you that you can't, that you suck, that you never did and never will. But that voice is wrong. So it is important to turn it off and replace it. How? Here are just a few tips:
Get your attitude into the right place and you will see that consistent action will follow
Do a daily review and make sure you focus on the good things that happened during the day. A good time for that is at night when you are in bed, just like a prayer. And you know what? You fall asleep with a positive mind which again creates positive thoughts. Try it!
Schedule thinking time during the day. Put it in your diary, even if it is only for 10 minutes. Take a pen and a note pad, sit back, go for a walk or what ever suits you and just think. And write down anything that appears important to you.
Low Productivity
Dot you tend to jump from one task to the other without ever finishing the first one? Do you feel like you haven't achieved anything during the day yet feel like you were busy all day long? Well, that certainly does not add to your success and therefore it is time to act on it. Make yourself a To-Do-List the night before, so when you get up the next morning, you already know what you have to do during the day and don't have to start thinking about it, running the risk that everything comes to mind at the same time and here we go again, jumping from one to the other. Instead have the list of the night before on your desk and complete one task after the other. And remember if you haven't finished one task, put it on the list for the next day. If you tend to put it off again and again you will eventually be so annoyed to find the same task on the list, you will just do it. And if you are finished with your tasks faster than you had planned, well take the rest of the day off or ask yourself: What is the most important use of my time now? And when you have the answer, start using your time.
I want to finish here now as in my experience we tend to get too much information and then we don't use any of it at all. So I leave you with those 3 tips to digest and will get on to the others in the next blog entry.
Until then, be productive and enjoy life.
